The electric vehicle market is expanding
As sales of electric vehicles continue to rise year on year, the need to install charging stations for electric vehicle users. In fact, in October 2020, the Objective 100,000 charging stations plan was launched by the Ministries of Transport and Ecology. As the name suggests, the aim was to install 100,000 electric charging stations by the end of 2021 in France.
Despite an increase in 2021, this goal has not been achieved, because according to Avere-Franceon December 31, 2021, France had more than 50,000 charging stations, of which 20,000 were fast-charging stations accessible to the public.
With the development of electric cars, the government continues to look for solutions to make electric vehicle recharging more affordable.

A charging station is considered fast when its power exceeds 43 kW. To reach this power, it must deliver three-phase direct current (DC). To recharge an electric vehicle suitable for this power level, use the CCS combo plug.
To recharge your electric vehicle, charging stations are available throughout France and Europe. Most of the time, these terminals are installed at road and freeway rest areas. Recently, recharging stations have begun to appear in the public parking lots ofhotels, restaurants, shops and supermarkets.

Recharge time depends on several parameters, including :
- From the electric car model
- The power delivered by the charging station
- Battery status
Generally speaking, with charging stations rated between 50 and 350 kW DC, you can charge your car to 80% of its capacity, for around 20 minutes. Beyond 80%, you'll need to allow another 30 minutes for charging.
To recharge your electric vehicle in France, charging stations are available free of charge in supermarket and retail parking lots, for example. However, most stations charge a fee. Charging operators provide charging cards or subscription badges so that each user can recharge their vehicle.
As far as pricing is concerned, there is no fixed price for fast recharging, as it varies according to :
- The car
- The battery
- Network of fast charging stations where the car will be recharged.
Depending on the network, there are 3 billing methods for recharging:
- Recharge per kWh
- Per-minute recharging (one of the most popular billing methods)
- Flat-rate billing: a majority of public networks offer night-time flat-rate billing, so that users can charge their vehicles during off-peak periods.
